SiNCiK
Sincik:
Sincik is
the most recent district (ilçe) of Adiyaman, becoming one in 1991. Until
then it was a Bucak under Kahta. Sincik is about 42 miles from Adiyaman with the population of the entire district, based on the 1990 census, of 19,524.
Of this 2,503 live in the central town, Sincik.
Farming and animal husbandry are the only
economic activities of the region, although recently honey making has gained
some importance. Due to its very rough terrain, farming in the area is very
primitive. Farmers can produce only enough for their sustenance. The
districts remoteness has prevented a thorough investigation of its many
archeological remains. Among the most significant is the Roman fortress of Derik.
